3 expert carpet cleaning tips

Get your carpet clean with our following carpet stain removal tips.

We all love clean carpets and we hate it when somebody spills some drink on your carpet. It's even worse when your carpet smells like cat urine or when you need visual pet stains removed.

Whatever the reason, carpet cleaning is easier than it sounds!

1. Regular house cleaning

A clean carpet starts with good carpet care. Make sure to do a 'routine maintenance' to prolong the life of your carpet. Every carpet cleaner can tell you that you need to vacuum your carpet at least once a week.

Carpets attract dirt, grime and even pet hair. Not only do they accumulate in between the fibers of your carpet to cause a dirty appearance. Sometimes they are the primary cause of problems for those with allergies.

Clean your carpet regularly: if you leave the dirt to build up it can:

  • cause damage to the carpet and

  • make it more difficult to clean when you do it.

2. Emergency carpet cleaning

In case of any 'accident': make sure to clean up any spills immediately before any carpet stain sets in or any odor spring up.

If the carpet spill is of a solid consistency, do use paper towels to remove as much as possible prior to addressing any stain in the carpet.

Never rub a carpet stain but lift your paper towel straight off the carpet to keep the staining to a minimum.

After the mess is removed you can begin to clean the spot with a paper towel and plain water with a few drops of carpet shampoo.

At first use a blotting motion in the area followed by a clockwise motion and then a counter clockwise motion to remove any carpet stains.

You do not want to scrub at the carpet because that can damage the carpet fibers.

If the stain is persistent, use a mild a carpet cleaner as possible for the stain. If water does not remove the stain, add a touch of detergent as this should remove most stains that you encounter.

If this technique does not take the stain out, use chemicals. Do should know that some chemicals may damage carpets so only use chemicals that are designed for use on carpet and even then use them sparingly.

3. Overall cleaning tips

  • Whenever working on stains make sure to use gloves to protect your skin.

  • Always test any carpet stain remover product in a small less noticeable area to make sure the carpet does not discolor.

  • Use circular motions and smaller amounts of liquid, there is no need to saturate the area: no need to induce water damage!

  • When finished cleaning, always rinse with clean water and blot dry with clean white towels to remove as much liquid as possible.

  • If you can take the time to clean up stains and spills immediately, it will help to prevent odors and persistent stains that can cause embarrassment when trying to get together with friends and family.
